Last summer when I grabbed a $5 Old Navy toddler tee and took 5 minutes to free-paint a little chicky on it for my daughter, I cavalierly said I wouldn't care if it only lasted 5 minutes because the fun in the exercise was the spontaneity and the shirt was so darn cheap who cared if it got messed up?
Approximately 10 minutes later - after Daddy put the shirt on her and fed her a pile of baked beans - I felt a little differently. The shirt was decommissioned. I waited until she grew and needed a new wad of tees in a larger size, then this morning I took another 5 minutes and copied the chick over to a new tee. A little less spontaneous, but it's nice to have ChickyBaby back in action. We'll see if we can keep this one clean for at least 20 minutes!
Update: The shirt lasted one day at school this time, before coming home irreparably stained with paint. Lesson learned: if I want the chick to last longer it needs to be painted on canvas and hung out of reach!
